What Are Veneers?
A porcelain veneer is a very thin, tooth-shaped piece of porcelain that is affixed to the front of a tooth using dental cement. Veneers can cover a multitude of problems, including a chip, a discolored tooth or a misaligned tooth. If you have a gap between your teeth that bothers you, a well-placed veneer will eliminate the gap. Dental veneers made of porcelain look very much like natural teeth, and they can give you a brilliant, naturally attractive smile.
What Do Traditional Porcelain Veneers Cost?
Our patient’s porcelain veneers cost relies on the number of veneers received, the type of veneer you select and whether our dentist needs to do any work first, such as filling a cavity. Dentists often recommend that you have your teeth whitened before getting a veneer, so the veneer is the same shade as your other teeth. Call our office to request your consultation and our dentist can tell you what your cost will be for our affordable veneers.
What’s the Difference Between Porcelain Crowns and Veneers?
Veneers porcelain cover the front side of a tooth, while a crown caps the entire tooth. Crowns restore a tooth’s integrity whereas veneers offer only cosmetic enhancement.
Is There a Major Change Before Getting Porcelain Teeth and After?
Yes, there is a major change. One discolored tooth can mar an entire smile. If you have multiple unsightly teeth, porcelain veneers can make a significant difference in your smile. You’ll also feel more confident about smiling after having veneers placed.
How Many Visits Does it Take to Have a Veneer Placed?
You only have to see your dentist twice for the porcelain veneers procedure. On the first visit, your dentist will make a mold of your teeth for the dental lab creating your veneer. He or she will take one millimeter or less of the enamel off each tooth that will have a veneer placed on it. Once the veneer comes back from the lab, it is permanently attached to your tooth with dental cement.
How Often Do Veneers Need to be Replaced?
Traditional porcelain veneers need to be replaced about every 10 to 15 years. However, you should ask our dentist when discussing veneers as some brands last longer than others. Like your natural teeth, veneers are not indestructible. Don’t open bottle caps or do anything else that can damage a natural tooth. If you play any contact sports, wear a mouthguard.
How Are Lumineers® Different than a Regular Porcelain Veneer?
Lumineers® are ultra-thin and highly translucent. In fact, the dentist will remove less, if any at all, of your tooth enamel. Despite being about 0.2 mm thick, compared to about 0.5 mm in thickness for traditional veneers, Lumineers can last several decades. If you would like to learn more about Lumineers, contact our office to arrange a consultation.
