Sedation Dentistry

Your Smile, Your Life ™

"Always trust the professionalism of all employees! I was able to be seen at the last moment today with an inflamed gum. X-ray and exam were done and I was put at ease. When I began my work with Dr. Rye's office several years ago I told them we would be best friends! Well it feels like that whenever I am there. Highly recommend this practice for all dental needs!!!! Dr. Rye even lectures to dental students on the newest treatments in his field."

We realize that many patients are apprehensive about receiving dental care. For patients who may bekitty anxious, we want them to be completely comfortable. That’s why our practice offers sedation dentistry. Also known as sleep dentistry, this technique allows our patients to feel comfortable and relaxed during any dental procedure. Anxiety should never prevent a patient from having the beautiful and healthy smile she or he deserves. We pioneered providing sedation dentistry in 1981 because we recognized that many people are anxious about receiving dental care.

When you come to Dr. Rye’s practice, he will listen to all of your concerns. He then discusses all of the methods used at Rye Smiles for Life to help make your dental treatment as comfortable as possible. Together, both Dr. Rye and you can decide on a Personalized Dental Plan that will achieve your goals while ensuring utmost comfort.

Many options are available at Rye Smiles for Life to provide for optimal comfort, including oral sedation, IV sedation, Nitrous Oxide (sometimes called laughing gas), and general anesthesia.

Many patients plagued by dental anxiety and some who require extensive work find that conscious oral sedation best meet their needs. The conscious oral sedation process begins with the patient taking a small pill about an hour before the dental appointment. Upon arriving at our office, you will begin to feel drowsy. Due to the sedative effects of the medication, sleep dentistry patients need a companion to drive them to our office and drive home following the procedure. At our office, a member of the staff will escort you into our comfort room and wrap you in a thick, warm blanket. We monitor your condition throughout the procedure so that we can ensure that you remain comfortable through the entire visit.

Once Dr. Rye has completed your dentistry, you will gradually wake up refreshed, with little or no memory of the appointment. With sedation dentistry, we can complete multiple procedures, or even a complete smile makeover, sometimes in just one visit!

If you live in the Fairfax and Vienna area, and are interested in sedation dentistry, contact Dr. D. Gordon Rye to learn how you can receive exceptional dental care in the most comfortable manner possible.
