How does Invisalign® work?
The Invisalign® process straightens teeth in a series of simple steps:
- Visit Our Dentist. Dr. D. Gordon Rye is an Invisalign® Certified Dentist serving the Arlington and Washington, D.C. areas. He can determine if Invisalign® is right for you during an initial consultation. In the first appointment, Dr. Rye takes impressions of your teeth and gums, a bite registration, digital X-rays, and photographs. Then Dr. Rye and Invisalign coordinate your Personalized Dental Plan (PDP).
- Invisalign® Crafts the Aligners. Using Dr. Rye’s Personalized Dental Plan, Invisalign® crafts the patient’s aligners using the latest advances in 3-Dimensional computer imaging technology. Computer imaging allows Invisalign® technicians to simulate the end result of the patient’s smile and craft the series of aligners accordingly.
- Wear the Aligners Consistently. You will receive your first set of aligners a few weeks after their initial appointment. Every two to six weeks, Dr. Rye evaluates the progress of your treatment and delivers the next set of aligners. The mapped-out Personalized Dental Plan allows precise adjustment of the force applied to each tooth, gradually straightening the teeth throughout treatment. You remove the aligners only to eat, drink, and clean your teeth.
- Treatment Is Complete. The teeth will move little by little until they reach their final position, usually in about nine to fifteen months. When treatment is complete, Dr. Rye will create a retention plan for the patient’s smile. Dr. Rye’s office also offers professional teeth whitening procedures to further enhance a new Invisalign® smile, using the aligners to apply bleaching solution to your teeth.
